G4 Hosts – Where are they Now? Part 1

While many of the devoted already know and follow their favorite ex-G4 hosts, some out there may be surprised where they can find the G4 class of 2002. Here’s part one of our look at what some of them are up to now:

Scot Rubin

scot_rubin.jpg

Then: Host of G4TV.com, President and Co-Founder
Now:
Founder of All Games, Host of All Games Interactive
MySpace: Yes
Website: www.allgames.com

After leaving G4 in 2004, Scot restarted his previous endeavor, All Games, an online 24/7 gaming radio network. Originally airing only a single show with game music filling the rest of the station’s schedule, All Games has grown to host nearly 20 different gaming shows and podcasts. The network emphesises interactivity and community, allowing users to text chat or call in to talk to the hosts in a live, uncensored format.
Scot also served a short stint as the VP of Marketing for the Championship Gaming Series in September of 2008, but had little time to create an impact as the series was shut down 3 months later.

Tina Wood/Summerfield

Then: Host of G4TV.com, Writer
Now: Microsoft
Myspace: None Public
Website: www.xbox.com

Following her departure from G4 in late 2005, Tina rejoined her G4TV.com co-host Laura Foy at Microsoft, on a new online “channel” called on10. Based at Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle, on10 was a video-style blog that reports on the latest technology, software, hardware, and games as well as the people who develop them. on10 was eventually merged into other Microsoft’s other blog Channel 9. Tina now does various work for Microsoft, including filming video segments for Xbox 360 and Xbox.com

Since leaving G4, Tina has also gotten married (but sometimes still goes by Tina Wood) and has a child.

Laura Foy

Now:
Reporter for on10.net
Myspace:
None Public
Website: www.channel9.com

Also leaving G4 in 2005, Foy followed Wood (or did Wood follow Foy?) to Microsoft’s on10.net to provide on-location video reports. Foy also still updates her personal blog with random musings and highlights of her work at on10. Laura appeared on former co-host Scot Rubin’s radio show in 2007 and Foy returned the favor by having Scot on a on10 segment as well.

Since the merger of on10 and Channel 9, Laura reguarlly co-hosts the web show Ping.

bill_sindelar.jpgBill Sindelar
Then: Host of Blister
Now: Various improv & acting work
Myspace: Yes
Website: www.billsindelar.com

Apparent fan favorite Bill Sindelar was cut loose from G4 in 2003 and went on to do a variety of work, including crowd-warm up for Wayne Brady’s shows, American Idol, Celebrity Circus and Dancing with the Stars, in-store HDTV advertisements for Best Buy as well as several TV ads. Sindelar’s site has recently been redesigned into a blog format and features some videos of some of the work he does on and off camera.

Diane Mizota
Then: Host of Filter
Now: Various work for Yahoo, TLC
Myspace: Yes
Website: www.dianemizota.com

Diane’s Filter ended in 2005, but Diane continued her tech centric hosting duties at Revision3, an online video channel and after leaving was replaced by another ex-G4 host, Wil Wheaton. Now Diane has just finished filming “Your Place or Mine,” for TLC, a commercial for Cadillac, some ads for Best Buy (separate from Bill Sindelar’s ads) and various work for Yahoo’s Buzz Session.

Keep your eyes peeled for part 2, coming soon!

G4 Rewind Ratings Update: BILL SINDELAR WINS

Neal Tiles posted the following in the G4 forums regarding the block’s ratings:

One month into G4 Rewind and I would say ratings results are mostly strong. Among Men 18-34, the demo we care most about, the Rewind block’s gains are pacing ahead of the gains the network is experiencing on a total day basis. However, the other area that we concentrate on, Households or total viewers, is not doing as well… we’re seeing a decline for the Rewind block here while the network overall has seen growth among total viewers, but the male 18-34 demo is what we look at first, and that’s up, so that’s great to see. The show we are most intrigued by is “Blister” which has posted some very strong numbers.

So it sounds pretty good, folks, thanks for everyone who is watching and I encourage everyone to continue watching as well… but BLISTER?! I had no idea everyone else shared my love for Bill Sindelar!
Thanks to forum user MeanBob for posting this.

Blister

About Blister

Coming attactions and previews made up the bulk of Blister, hosted by Bill Sindelar. For the most part, Blister featured game trailers and videos narrated by Sindelar in the style of game’s main character. The show was also sprinkled with interviews from developers and industry insiders and occasionally some on-location action.

Status
-Blister is cancelled and no longer in production. No reruns are currently airing.

Hosts

Bill Sindelar

“Mad Bil Sindelar” has dipped his feet in lots of different entertainment genres over his carreer, including The Wayne Brady Show, various on-location Nickelodeon events, sporting events and movies. Outside of entertainment, he’s also ventured into areas such as DJ-ing, semi-pro sports and even training at SeaWorld. His website is located at billsindelar.com.

History

Blister goes down in G4 lore as the first show to ever air on the network. The show aired for roughly a year and half before getting cancelled due to budget problems in January of 2004, ironicly just after a host chat with Sindelar on G4′s IRC chat. The show’s last episode, “Skunk’d” was a paradoy of the (at the time) also ending MTV show “Punk’d”, however G4 viewers would soon find out that Blister’s cancellation was no joke. Soon after another popular G4 show Portal was also cancelled. The show returned on air in reruns in summer of 2008 as part of the G4 Rewind block.

BTW!
-Blister was the first show to ever air on the network, part of the original 13 series to debut with G4
-The Blister pilot featured the same intro with different music
-Blister featured some of the highest ratings of the G4 Rewind block
