Microsoft to rent G4 to relaunch Xbox? Um, no.

A rather bizzare rumor popped up on the VG Chartz gaming forum which stated the following:

"September 25th 7pm EST. Microsoft will start a five hour countdown to relaunch their console. Yes that is right nothing short of a relaunch is acceptable. At the end of the five hours your console will update to the new interface with full functionality. To promote this most historic event with a full fledged media blitz. Microsoft has gone so far as to rent television space as in rent a channel. For those five hours G4 television will cover the event exclusively with live coverage. For those with Live they will be able to download or stream the channel."

G4 Rewind faithful will immediately realize at least the last part of this rumor is impossible, due to G4's contracts with cable/satellite companies that doesn't let them stream exclusive content online if it's also airing on the network.

To further squash the rumor, G4's The Feed has also posted the story claiming that it's entirely false.

So there you go, do you really think anyone could "rent out" G4 anyway? I guess the Nintendo DS launch might have been something similar to that...

Scot Rubin's Mystery Job Revealed!

A few weeks ago we reported that Scot Rubin was leaving his daily gaming talk show, All Games Interactive, for greener, yet mysterious pastures.

Early this morning Scot revealed that he was REJOINING G4 the new VP of Marketing for the Championship Gaming Series!

It's true I am now the VP of Marketing over at The CGS. I didn't take it just to be some suit at a pro gaming league. The CGS is owned by DirecTV, BSkyB, Star Asia and has just hired my former favorite G4 colleague Dale Hopkins as CEO. Dale and I were the first 2 people to develop G4 and she is one of the smartest, most energetic, hard working people i've ever met. If only the CEO at G4 let us run the place... But I digress. We are currently working hard to answer questions about the league, the teams, the games, the image, and the future of what pro/competitive gaming should be.

As we all saw in July, the CGS is a great production and has already made great leaps for competitive and team gaming, it can only get better with Mr Soul Patch onboard.

Open Source 9/1: Summer of Rewind ends, X-Play goes 1 hour

It's the first of the month, which means bills are due.

Oh and Open Source, with G4 President Neal Tiles! This month is a little bittersweet, as Neal announces the end of the G4 Rewind Summer block, but the door isn't closed, as G4 Rewind will continue on as a 90 minute block in the mornings, but only of semi-current G4 shows Cheat! and GameMakers. Tiles does mention the block could have some specials and change-ups though. I'll be commenting more in a later post.

The other big bomb is that X-Play will be expanding once again and will run for an hour every week day... temporary in December. If the trial run goes well, they may expand the show permanently.

There was also some LOST 2.0 details, apparently the on-screen chat has been redesigned to be less obtrusive and G4 HD will not include in-house shows until 2009.

As I said earlier, I'll be making an editorial post tomorrow about G4 Rewind, but thanks to all who made the block possible, especially all of you that woke up early, dragged yourself out of bed, skipped classes/work or set your DVR's to watch. This is far from the end!
