Electric Playground goes Daily... in Canada

Last June, we mentioned that Electric Playground's Victor Lucas said there was a big announcement concerning the next season of EP coming. Today Lucas spilled the beans, announcing "EP Daily," a new show that will air weekdays in news magazine format. EP Daily, like the newer incarnation of X-Play, will expand to cover daily news, previews, interviews, on-location segments and broaden to cover tech, internet, movies, comics, music, sports, and animation in addition to it's gaming coverage.

Lucas also said the regular Electronic Playground will continue on as a once-a-week wrap up style show and "EP Canada" will begin in the fall, which will highlight Canadian game makers.

By this point, you're probably expecting me to say "All of this is exclusive to G4TechTV Canada viewers at this time." And you would be right... well... partly.

G4 USA has posted that they will air "highlights" of everything EP does on G4tv.com and through G4's on-demand portal (in HD, even). However at this time, it appears none of this will make it's way to G4's on-air channel. If you WOULD like to see EP on G4 USA, head over to the EP boards on G4's site and let them know.

Thanks to forum member Tiki for finding the announcement.

G4 to air 2 new foreign shows

While I haven't noticed any press release or mention of it on G4's site, it looks like G4 has picked up a few new shows from overseas.

The Peter Serafinowicz Show - A sort of sketch comedy show which originally airs on the BBC.
Freaky - A paranormal children's show from New Zealand, described as "The Twilight Zone" for kids.

Strangely enough, these are airing on Sunday, August 3rd at 12:30AM, not part of Duty Free TV, it appears. Super Big Product Fun Show is also making a return after they air.

Thanks to Rewind forum member mplante for his supreme schedule digging skills.

E3 Leftovers: G4 to marathon rerun coverage, GTTV to air special

While we all recover from our E3 Comas, some may need to catch up what they missed. Both G4 and GameTrailers TV will be airing more E3 coverage over the weekend.

GameTrailers TV E3 Special - Saturday @ 12AM EST
GTTV goes one-on-one with Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime, Sony's Jack Tretton, and Microsoft's John Schappert straight from E3 2008 to find out the big three's big plans for the coming year. Plus, Amanda MacKay takes viewers down to the showroom floor for up-close looks at this year's hottest titles.

We'll also deliver the world premiere trailer for Eidos' Tomb Raider: Underworld and first details on the new multiplayer first-person shooter title from id Software; Quake Live. Plus, Daniel Kayser interviews Hollywood hardcore gamer Elijah Wood about his role in the upcoming Sierra Entertainment game The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon.

All of that and more is heading your way at the special time of midnight on SPIKE, but if you miss the show on-air you can also catch it online and in high-definition anytime at GameTrailers.com and on Xbox Live Marketplace.

G4 - E3 '08 Live Marathon - Saturday @ 9AM EST
Catch an unprecedented 8 hours of (previously) live coverage from all three days on the show floor at E3 2008. Hands on demos, interviews, trailers and floor reports included from highly anticipated games such as Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Mirror's Edge, inFamous, Resistance 2 and more!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I need to lay down for awhile.

Reminder: G4 carrying E3 Press Conferences Live, Online and Off

e308.jpg

In case you are living under a rock, I'd like to kindly remind you that next week is E3, the expo formerly known for being totally awesome but now more known for being... totally okay.

G4, as always, is covering the event in grand fashion, including live commercial free feeds of Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo's press conferences as well as over 17 hours of live coverage from the show floor. All the press cons will also be streamed online for those who don't have G4 or won't be near a TV.

You can view the entire E3 08 schedule here.

What games are you looking forward too? Personally, I can't wait to see Beyond Good & Evil 2, Mirror's Edge, UNO: Armageddon Edition and The Oranger Box.

G4 Hosts - Where are they Now? Part 1

While many of the devoted already know and follow their favorite ex-G4 hosts, some out there may be surprised where they can find the G4 class of 2002. Here's part one of our look at what some of them are up to now:

scot_rubin.jpg
Scot Rubin
Then: Host of G4TV.com, President and Co-Founder
Now:  Founder of All Games, Host of All Games Interactive
MySpace: Yes
Website: www.allgames.com

After leaving G4 in 2004, Scot restarted his previous endeavor, All Games, an online 24/7 gaming radio network. Originally airing only a single show with game music filling the rest of the station's schedule, All Games has grown to host nearly 20 different gaming shows and podcasts, including All Games Interactive, a daily 2-4 hour live show which discusses not only games and gamers, but also anything gamers are talking about. The network emphesises interactivity and community, allowing users to text chat or call in to talk to the hosts in a live, uncensored format.

tina_wood.jpgTina Wood/Summerfield
Then: Host of G4TV.com, Writer
Now: Reporter for on10.net
Myspace: None Public

Website: www.on10.net

Following her departure from G4 in late 2005, Tina rejoined her G4TV.com co-host Laura Foy at Microsoft, on a new online "channel" called on10. Based at Microsoft's headquarters in Seattle, on10 is a video-style blog that reports on the latest technology, software, hardware, and games as well as the people who develop them. Over the summer of 2007, Tina disappeared mysteriously from the blog, however former G4TV.com production assistant Kevin Pereira revealed that Wood had recently given birth to a baby girl. Wood had also gotten married at some point, which is surley to be lamented by rabid fanboys everywhere, but still goes by her madien name at on10.

laura_foy.jpgLaura Foy
Then: Host of G4TV.com, Writer
Now: Reporter for on10.net
Myspace: None Public
Website: www.on10.net, Public Blog

Also leaving G4 in 2005, Foy followed Wood (or did Wood follow Foy?) to Microsoft's on10.net to provide on-location video reports. Foy also still updates her personal blog with random musings and highlights of her work at on10. Laura appeared on former co-host Scot Rubin's radio show in 2007 and Foy returned the favor by having Scot on a on10 segment as well.

bill_sindelar.jpgBill Sindelar
Then: Host of Blister
Now: Various improv & acting work
Myspace: Yes
Website: www.billsindelar.com

Apparent fan favorite Bill Sindelar was cut loose from G4 in 2003 and went on to do a variety of work, including crowd-warm up for Wayne Brady's shows, American Idol, Celebrity Circus and Dancing with the Stars, in-store HDTV advertisements for Best Buy as well as several TV ads. Sindelar's site has recently been redesigned into a blog format and features some videos of some of the work he does on and off camera.

Thumbnail image for diane_mizota.jpg
Diane Mizota
Then: Host of Filter
Now: Various work for Yahoo, TLC
Myspace: Yes
Website: www.dianemizota.com

Diane's Filter ended in 2005, but Diane continued her tech centric hosting duties at Revision3, an online video channel and after leaving was replaced by another ex-G4 host, Wil Wheaton. Now Diane has just finished filming "Your Place or Mine," for TLC, a commercial for Cadillac, some ads for Best Buy (separate from Bill Sindelar's ads) and various work for Yahoo's Buzz Session.

Keep your eyes peeled for part 2, coming soon!

G4 Rewind Ratings Update: BILL SINDELAR WINS

Neal Tiles posted the following in the G4 forums regarding the block's ratings:

One month into G4 Rewind and I would say ratings results are mostly strong. Among Men 18-34, the demo we care most about, the Rewind block's gains are pacing ahead of the gains the network is experiencing on a total day basis. However, the other area that we concentrate on, Households or total viewers, is not doing as well... we're seeing a decline for the Rewind block here while the network overall has seen growth among total viewers, but the male 18-34 demo is what we look at first, and that's up, so that's great to see. The show we are most intrigued by is "Blister" which has posted some very strong numbers.

So it sounds pretty good, folks, thanks for everyone who is watching and I encourage everyone to continue watching as well... but BLISTER?! I had no idea everyone else shared my love for Bill Sindelar!

Thanks to forum user MeanBob for posting this.

AOTS gets Row-Bots, exits Monitor Heads

AOTS has seen a few changes over the past few weeks, most notably their own robots, which debuted today on the show. The robots are part of a set refresh and were custom made for the show by Hollywood special effect artists and feature in-chest monitors and ...beer taps. The robots are fully functional and can talk and move.

The four robots will join Olivia Munn and her human counterpart Kevin Pereira bringing the robot-to-human ratio to a dangerous 5 to 1.

Sadly, the introduction of these bots means the removal of my personal favorite set piece, the monitor heads, which were a staple of AOTS for over 2 years. eBay anyone?

For pictures of the new 'bots, click here.

Mirror Universe: Giga Gaming TV

While in the US we have G4 and GamePlay HD, in Germany gamers have "Giga" their own digital cable based 24 hour gaming network.

Trying to figure out exactly what Giga is isn't an easy task, especially since their site is totally in German and the wikipedia entry isn't translated too well, but you get an idea of what they offer.

They have a lot of G4-esque shows, including a show dedicated to Wii, 360,PS3, WoW and even a show about retro games. My personal favorite is a mysterious show called "ROFL TV." They also have a very Screen Savers-esque show with a man who I've determined is some sort of mirror universe Kevin Rose, who sports a beard. They even have interactive elements including forums and a chat room and they clam to have over 1,200,000 members.

Apparently, Giga started as a gaming show on German NBC in 1998, but later got it's own channel in 2005.

If you'd like to see an example of what they air (including bearded german Kevin Rose), you can check out mogulus.com/g4tv. I'm not sure why they are using/stole the G4TechTV name at that link (which could have been done by a fan), but it's still Giga.de branded.

Open Source for July posted

nealjuly.gif

It's the first of the month, which means two things. Bills are due and G4 prez Neal Tiles has posted his monthly Q&A "Open Source."

This month, Neal talks E3 coverage, explains why G4 can't be streamed online, the lack of comedy on X-Play, why HURL isn't necessarily about hurling and more.

You can read the full post here.
