As the 2008 presidential race heats up, so does G-Phoria which returns for it's 6th year this August. The once glamor and glitz stage show, now no-BS X-Play special is changing a few things this year, namely early voting.
Because 2008 was such a huge year for great games, G4 is having voters narrow down the list from 12 Game of the Year entries to 6. Voting for this special GOTY primary runs from today until mid-July.
Games up for GOTY are:
Bioshock
Halo 3
The Orange Box
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Super Mario Galaxy
Assassin's Creed
Rock Band
Mass Effect
Super Smash Bros Brawl
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Grand Theft Auto 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
You are all voting for Bioshock, right? If so, then click here to go to the voting page, then click on Bioshock. If you're voting for any other game, you can do so by clicking the red X on the top right of your screen, then unplug your computer.
Congratulations to G4 Rewind forum user "vicon" who has won our little giveaway!
vicon wins:
-A Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Webcam (w/ built in mic)

A bit belated, but Electric Playground host Victor Lucas has posted on the official EP message boards that a "huge announcement" concerning the next season of EP is coming soon.
Let the speculation begin! Could EP be returning to the US airwaves? Tommy Tallarico returns as co-host? G4 Rewind is placing it's bets on EP going HD. G4 President Neal Tiles mentioned in an Open Source post that EP would soon be going HD on G4tv.com. If you remember, another recent Greedy Productions show (The Lab with Leo) was filmed in HD, perhaps that equipment is going to have a new home on the Electric Playground?
Stay tuned...

So I was practicing my vomiting skills today, in preparation for the launch of the hotly-anticipated "Hurl" when I noticed an email from G4 in my inbox. Could this be it? My invitation to compete in Hurl? My (next) 15 mintues of fame?! I quickly put down my 14LB burrito and wiped the dripping grease off my fingers to check the email, only to realize it was nothing of the sort. How disappointing! It was just some announcement for a video game show or something... I guess I'll fill you in since the burrito is now cold.
G4 and the Championship Gaming Series (CGS) inked a deal today to air four 90 minute specials covering the "only worldwide professional video game league."
"By bringing Championship Gaming Series to the network, we are giving our audience the rare opportunity to watch some of the world's best gamers in action. The competition is certain to appeal to our viewers," said Neal Tiles, President, G4.
"CGS programming will debut July 16 on G4 with the league's 2008 North America playoffs. The network will air four 90-minute episodes in total: the 2008 North America Final on Wed., July 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT; 2008 World Final Quarterfinals matches on Sat., July 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT; 2008 World Final Semifinals matches on Sat., July 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT; and the 2008 World Final Championship Match on Saturday, August 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT."
Sounds kinda weird... a show about video games? Gimmie a break! THIS IS A NEW LOW FOR G4! HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO US! I'M WRITING A ONLINE PETITION TO STOP THIS, WHO IS WITH ME?!?!
Ugh, well... I guess it's okay, as long as it doesn't cut into my COPS and Cheaters marathons.
The full press release is posted after the jump.

Seriously though, this is awesome.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMING SERIES BRINGS PROGRAMMING TO U.S. CABLE TELEVISION FOR FIRST TIME WITH EXCLUSIVE G4 DEAL
Combined CGS distribution will now reach more than 425 million viewers worldwide
LOS ANGELES - June 16, 2008 - Championship Gaming Series™ (CGS), the only worldwide professional video gaming league, today announced an exclusive deal with G4 Media that brings broadcast programming of the league's competitions to United States cable television for the first time.
G4, the only destination on television for video games, web culture, and the latest must-have tech gadgets, will air four 90-minute episodes beginning July 16, including the CGS 2008 North America Finals and the CGS 2008 World Finals.
"During our first season, Championship Gaming Series established itself as the creator of the world's most compelling and engaging television programming dedicated to professional video gaming," said Andy Reif, Chief Executive Officer for CGS. "Although we were a brand-new sports league in 2007, we created an incredibly powerful global television platform with partners including DIRECTV, DIRECTV Latin America, BSKYB, STAR and ESPN-STAR Sports, through which nearly 50 million cumulative viewers tuned in to watch our programming worldwide during our inaugural season. For our second season, we continue to grow our audience and worldwide reach and this new deal with G4 will help fans connect to CGS via US cable television, for the first time."
"G4's young male viewers are passionate about video games," said Neal Tiles, President, G4. "By bringing Championship Gaming Series to the network, we are giving our audience the rare opportunity to watch some of the world's best gamers in action. The competition is certain to appeal to our viewers."
CGS programming will debut July 16 on G4 with the league's 2008 North America playoffs. ET/PT.
This announcement is the latest in a series of moves by CGS to expand its global broadcast and online audience. The G4 deal follows the league's April 22 announcement of a groundbreaking deal with European sports broadcasting giant Eurosport to broadcast CGS matches throughout Europe and the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel for CGS on May 23.

Those of you that are distraught over Anime Unleashed not making the G4 Rewind cut can take some satisfaction in a new column at G4, apparently called "G4 Rewind Anime Style" which reviews classic anime and manga.
The column is running all month and the first issue is up below.
As a special thank you to you die-hard fans that have helped make G4 Rewind happen, I'm holding a little giveaway to say thanks.
There will be two giveaways, one is open to everyone, the other is reserved for forum members who have been here for awhile.
GIVEAWAY #1
Open to:
EVERYONE
The Schwag:
-A Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Webcam (w/ built in mic)
-A copy of "King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" on DVD
-"Code Monkeys: Season One" on DVD (once it's released in August)
How to Win:
This is a creativity thing, but it's fairly open. Create SOMETHING related to either gaming or G4 and send it in. It could be a photoshop'd picture of Bill Sindelar doing ballet, it could be a remix of your favorite theme song, maybe some Portal fanfiction or a tribute video with sad emo music! It doesn't have to be overly complicated or elaborate, I'm not giving away a new car here, so don't spend tens of hours on it, but at least make it above a 3rd grade level project. Razz I will pick my favorite top 5 or 10 entries (depending on how many we receive) and then the rest of you will vote on the winner.
Send your entry to the email address contest AT g4rewind DOT com. In the subject line put "Giveaway #1 Entry". If it's a video, you can upload it to YouTube, DailyMotion, or where ever and include the URL in the email. If it's a picture, text or audio file, you can attach it to the email.

GIVEAWAY #2
Open to:
Any G4 Rewind forum members who registered BEFORE May 1st, 2008 (the day G4 Rewind block was announced).
The Schwag:
-A Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Webcam (w/ built in mic)
-A copy of "King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" on DVD
-A $15 Best Buy Gift Card
-A $15 Blockbuster Gift Card
How to Win:
This is a random drawing, all you need to do is send an email to contest AT g4rewind DOT com. In the subject line put "Giveaway #2 Entry" and in the body put your G4 Rewind Forums username.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-
There will be one winner for each giveaway, you can enter both, but you can't win both. The last day for entries will be JUNE 15th, so you have about a week! Please do NOT post your entry here, email it as stated above. Also: I fully expect the winners to use the webcam to do VVM and VA's, (along with whatever else you want it for) so don't enter if you aren't going to use it!
FYI, this contest is NOT endorsed or ran by G4, it's just something I'm doing myself, so please do not badger them about it!
If you have any questions, post your question in this thread in the forums.
Once again, we're "Late to the Game" on this one. Sorry.
Gaming television suffered another punch to the gut a few weeks back as Dish Networks dropped GamePlayHD and the rest of VOOM's HD channels from it's lineup. Dish added several mainstream HD channels and reportedly dropped less popular channels to make bandwidth space.
If you'd never seen GamePlayHD before, it was a small operation with several shows that were similar to G4's originals, including Trailer Park, a show featuring gaming videos and trailers (Cinematech!), several gaming competition shows (Arena!), and documentaries on game development (Icons!). You may also remember our post on GameCaster, a show endorsed by Tommy Tallarico and Victor Lucas with hosting stints by Tina Wood.
Speaking of GameCaster, it still seems to be alive and just got a patent on their camera technology approved and is now fresh for the taking! Did you hear that G4? Arena 2.0? Am I jinxing this yet?
While GamePlayHD is not technically dead yet, as it still airs on a small number of Cablevision cable packages, that contract expires June 30th and you can probably guess the odds of it getting renewed.
I believe this is where I make a joke about quitting G4 Rewind for GamePlayHD Rewind.
You can read more on the story in this post at the Allgames message board.
