G4 to drop Electric Playground

While schedules are preliminary, it looks like G4 is dropping The Electric Playground from their schedule. According to Zap2it.com, EP will not being continuing with its 10:30am ET/PT timeslot in the new year. The last airing of EP will be Episode #1628 on Friday, December 29th, 2006, at 10:30am ET/PT. Another airing of Cinematech will take the place of EP.

This move does not come off as surprising, as G4 has been shedding much of its video game content in the past 2 years. It is unknown at the time if G4techTV Canada will continue to air EP, but the best bet is to monitor their schedule.

Stay tuned to G4 Rewind for any new news breaks on the status of The Electric Playground. Feel free to discuss this news in the Comments section or in the Forums. (Registration required).

This sucks, although EP is hardly ever on and it's only on when no one is home to watch it, so EP is probably better off finding a new network anyway.

I have sent the following e-mail to the G4 network. If anyone else wants to do the same e-mail: info@g4media.com, or stories@g4media.com.

Dear G4 Network,

What is going on with what used to be my favorite channel? The selection of gaming
or technology related programming has diminished greatly. By my count there are
only 6 shows related to technology and gaming, however 1 is being cancelled and
the other does not have new episodes. I have seen more technology programming on
HGTV, and I wish I was kidding about that statement. This would be like Fuel tv
not showing extreme sports programming so that they can show "Everybody Loves
Raymond". Please keep my favorite shows on G4 and try to get more gaming &
technology programming on your channel.

Here's the shrinking list of tech/gaming shows on your network. Each one of
these shows is excellent, and I watch or podcast.

1. X-Play
2. Attack of the Show
3. Cheat
4. Cinematech
5. Electric Playground (I heard this is being cancelled.)
6. Game Makers (No new episodes in a year and a half.)

I am writing to encourage your network to carry more gaming and technology related
programming. What happened to the TechTV & G4TV gamer roots? I still would like
an explanation as to why G4TV.com(my favorite G4 show) was cancelled. I have heard
from friends and other viewers on the web that they do not like the direction that
your network is taking. Most have taken to podcasting or watching other channels
which means you are losing viewers. Some resources to mine for programming would
be; Revision3, GameHead on SpikeTV, Microsoft10, 1UP.com, CNET, and make new episodes
of Game Makers. I will not continue to watch your channel if you keep decreasing
the level of tech/gaming programming. I understand that not every show on G4 will
cover tech/gaming, but the programming has almost gotten completely away from that
type of programming altogether.

The list of shows on G4 that are lowsy or can be watched on other channels

1. COPS (Are you kidding me?)
2. Cheaters (What is this, the CW?)
3. Icons (Didn't this used to be about gaming?)
4. Star Trek & Next Generation (How many other channels is this on already?)
5. Banzai (Television at it's worst.)
6. Fastlane (There's a reason Fox dropped this show after 1 season.)
7. Filter (This was a good show when it covered technology and was hosted by Diane
Mizota)
8. Brainiac (Good show if you don't have a brain.)
9. Totally Outrageous Behavior (Scraping the bottom of the barrel about now.)

The list of decent non-gaming/tech shows on G4 are
1. Street Fury
2. Arrested Development
3. The Man Show

If you are going to mine other networks for programming, the statistics should tell
you that most gamers/techheads watch Comedy Central's "The Daily Show",
"Colbert Report", and "South Park" outside of the few good shows
left on G4. Please stop driving your viewers and myself away.

Hey Justin, it's a good thought, but really, emails like that don't work. :/

Btw, use info@g4tv.com in the future
g4media.com redirects to g4tv.com anyway
