G4 lays off acquisitions staff

According to a G4 staffer, she and presumably the entire G4 acquisitions staff has been laid off. Apparently the network has no funds for acquisitions left for 2007 and thus the editing staff is no longer needed.

Is this good or bad? Does this means there won't be anymore random shows appearing on the network and that they'll have to rely on in-house stuff more? Or does it simply mean they'll have to borrow more money from Uncle Comcast to fund that next season of World's Wildest Police Chases? Or could it be another sign of the eventual collapse of G4? OR could it mean we're speculating bastards that have no idea what we're talking about?

Yes.

Thanks to forum member FFanatic for the story.

G4 to drop Electric Playground

While schedules are preliminary, it looks like G4 is dropping The Electric Playground from their schedule. According to Zap2it.com, EP will not being continuing with its 10:30am ET/PT timeslot in the new year. The last airing of EP will be Episode #1628 on Friday, December 29th, 2006, at 10:30am ET/PT. Another airing of Cinematech will take the place of EP.

This move does not come off as surprising, as G4 has been shedding much of its video game content in the past 2 years. It is unknown at the time if G4techTV Canada will continue to air EP, but the best bet is to monitor their schedule.

Stay tuned to G4 Rewind for any new news breaks on the status of The Electric Playground. Feel free to discuss this news in the Comments section or in the Forums. (Registration required).

Some updates

Before I start, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm proscribed, and as KnuxSonic mentioned in the last entry, I'll be helping out with the site and modding the forums. I've been following G4 since May 2004 (actually since the last few weeks of TechTV, then G4techTV, and now G4) so I'm pretty up to date on what's going on with the network. I don't watch the network as much as I used to (due to the fact the many of the shows I used to watch were canceled, dropped, etc.) but I do watch the occasional Attack of the Show and X-Play episode.

Back to the original intent of this post, I'd like to point out the following updates:

-The Current Shows and Past Shows lists are in the process of being updated.
-The "Shows" page is also being updated to correspond with above updates.
-The Unscrewed Intro has been added to the "Media" page.

Stay tuned for more.

Call for Help staff laid off, Next season to be produced by Greedy

In some late news from our neighbors to the north, G4TechTV Canada is apparently laying off the Call for Help staff in Toronto and outsourcing production of future seasons to Greedy Productions in Vancouver. Greedy is the same production house responsible for Electric Playground, Judgment Day and Reviews on the Run. The show may be renamed and it may be retool for American audiences, but details are still sparse. The current crew will continue filming through January.

Thanks to G4R forum member rayjay2380 for the heads up.

New G4 Rewind Staff

If you see someone posting stuff that's not me, that's gonna be 'proscribed,' our new news poster-person for G4 Rewind. He's also going to help out moderating the forums, as we have quite the spam bot infestation. If you would like to be a mod, post in forums, we probably still need one more.
