Network Round-up: G4 picks up two new (old) series

This is old news to most, but G4 has picked up Conan O'Brien dropout "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" and FOX/Comedy Central abondonee "Banzai". Both will begin airing in March. This continues the current G4 trend of increasing focus on outsourced content.

To our knowledge right now, the only shows that are still being produced in-house at G4 are Attack of the Show, Icons, Cinematech and X-Play. Icons, at last check, was still set to begin it's new season this Spring (but with a broader focus on content), as will The Electric Playground. Cheat!'s status is still TBD.

The removal of the slogan "Videogame TV" is nearly complete, only left in a few spots on the website (the title of the main site page) and on older ads on the network. Still no date on when/if the network will be relaunched (for the 4th time). Also no word on the status of G-Phoria 2006, or if such a thing will exist.

Lastly most of the web team has left/laid off as evident with the increasing lack of updates to the site and forums. The_D, Chickytown and countless other longtime G4 webteam employees have quietly exited. The AOTS blog, however, is still being frequently updated.

More news as it breaks!

Pulse

Pulse Logo About Pulse

Pulse was G4's weekly gaming news show with headline news, interviews, on-location reports and in-depth segments. It was also the headline show for E3 news, featuring special reports and updates throughout the month. Pulse also had short daily headline reports which aired through out the day on G4 during commercial breaks.

Status
Pulse is canceled and no longer in production. No reruns are currently airing.

Previous Hosts: Ronilyn Reilly

History

Pulse was the definitive news source for video games on G4. Rounding up the week's news in a professional-newscast style, Pulse has interviewed such greats as Peter Molyneux, creators of Homestar Runner and Shigeru Miyamoto. During the network merger between TechTV and G4, Pulse got a visual makeover just in time for E3 2004. However in November of the same year, Pulse was canceled by the network, in order to focus on the newly-revamped TSS (now AOTS). The idea was, instead of making Pulse a daily live show, to use the current daily live show the network had to air the news as well as variety of other segments, topics and guests.

Tidbits

-Pulse was one of the 13 original shows to debut with G4
-Pulse was originally a half-hour show but it was expanded to an hour later on.
-In between commercials for other shows, Pulse aired "Pulse Headlines" which was a quick, daily text review of the day's headlines in gaming.

Players

Players Logo About Players

Very similar to MTV's "Cribs", Players goes into the homes of celebs and checks out their gaming habits as well as their current projects. Players is an on-the-road style show and covers actors, entire bands, sports heros and more.

Status
Players is cancelled and no longer in production. No reruns are currently airing.

Hosts
Players has no hosts.

History

Players debuted with G4 in 2002 and was quietly cancelled in December of 2004. Players has visted the homes of many celebs including David Arquette, David Hoffman, Alec Baldwin, the Barenaked Ladies and more. Players was widely the least liked of the G4 Launch Lineup, mostly due to it's similarities to MTV style shows.

Tidbits

-Players was one of the 13 original series to launch with G4
-Players is also spelled as "Player$"

Links are Live

The links page is now live. I've added a lot of links to former hosts' pages, resumes and blogs. Click the links button near the top.

I know the banner thing is buggy on all the pages but this one and of course looks AWFUL in IE. I'm working on it, but it'd be nice if IE would hurry up and support .PNG images.

Also, ads are live on the site to help pay bandwidth. Not on every page though.
